THE RECORD
On September 9, 2026, Columbia County deputies responded to an apartment on U.S. Highway 441 South in Lake City for a welfare check. Deputies entered the unlocked apartment and found 16-year-old Ashia La'Shai Moore dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
Ashia's family informed investigators that she was approximately seven months pregnant. Her unborn son, whom she had named Jaxson Lamier Moore, also died.
Investigators identified Ashia's 17-year-old boyfriend, Dominique Santonio Hill, as a person of interest. Hill was interviewed and subsequently arrested on a charge of tampering with evidence. In the reporting currently reviewed, authorities had not announced a murder charge against Hill, and the homicide investigation remained active.
